Albert Wilson Foundation Took Group of Teens to a Miami Dolphins Home Game, Coordinated a Tailgate Experience on November 28th
Gameday experience was provided to a group of Boys & Girls Club youth who participated in
AWF’s Shark Tank-like contest at its inaugural Life Skills & Leadership Day in May 2021
MIAMI, FL – (December 08, 2021) – The Albert Wilson Foundation (AWF), founded by Miami Dolphins wide receiver Albert Wilson to enrich the lives of children in foster care, took a select group of youth from Boys & Girls Clubs of St Lucie County to the Miami Dolphins home game versus the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, November 28th. The day began with the youth arriving early at Hard Rock Stadium to attend the Football Unites CommUNITY Tailgate presented by Truist. This gameday experience was initially announced as a surprise prize to all youth who participated in AWF’s Shark Tank-like entrepreneurship contest at the Foundation’s inaugural Life Skills & Leadership Day in May 2021.
Previously, AWF coordinated for the same group of youth participants to travel to Lake Nona for a tour of leAD Sports & Health Tech Accelerator, and to participate in a virtual fireside chat with Horst Bente, grandson of Adi Dassler, founder of Adidas and co-founder of leAD.
The gameday experience included access to the Football Unites CommUNITY tailgate, presented by Truist, which featured games, food, music, appearances by Dolphins Cheer and a fun atmosphere for youth to meet and mingle with youth from other groups. After the tailgate the teens enjoyed watching a great Dolphins win from lower-level seats and a meet and greet with Albert Wilson after the game. Wilson took photos with the group, signed autographs and escorted the teens to the field for a group photo.
As mentioned, this experience was provided by Albert Wilson Foundation as to reward youth who chose to step outside of their comfort zones and learn how to create a business plan and pitch their plans in front of prominent business leaders in a Shark Tank-like format. This program and opportunity reaffirmed AWF’s commitment to providing foster youth and youth from underserved communities with career mentorship and resources needed to compete and succeed. About The Albert Wilson Foundation
The Albert Wilson Foundation is a charity founded by Miami Dolphins WR Albert Wilson to enrich the lives of children in foster care (he, too, came up through the foster care system). It strives to change the destiny of foster children and break the cycle of abuse, neglect and abandonment. With an average of 40-60% of foster youth identifying as Black or Hispanic, the Foundation also serves as a voice and an agent of change dedicated to raising awareness for social justice and racial inequalities. The Foundation not only works to support youth during their transition in and out of foster care, but also provides a platform for transitioning youth to learn about legal rights, laws and social issues impacting people of color. Its goal is to provide scholarships to those wishing to continue their education outside the state of Florida, in addition to rewarding youth who continue to excel in the classroom and extracurriculars, despite all obstacles and circumstances.
